Tokens are a type of card that represent creatures, resources, and other permanents. When you cast an arcane spell or activate an ability with the symbol in its cost, you may pay the difference in mtg cards between mtg token and mtg permanent to put a mtg token onto the battlefield instead of mgmt permanent. Tokens enter play tapped unless they come from your hand (they can be untapped later by special abilities).
A mtg token is a mtg permanent, but it enters play without any +x/+y counters and its effects don’t take place until the next turn. mtg.
Tokens represent creatures, resources, and other permanents. When you cast an arcane spell or activate an ability with the symbol in its cost, you may pay the difference between a token and a permanent to put a token onto the battlefield instead of putting the permanent on the battlefield.
A token is treated as any other creature would be; it enters play tapped unless it comes from your hand (it can be untapped later by special abilities). It has no +x/+y counters until its effects take place next turn.
A counter is something like mana that helps keep track of how much time remains before this card’s effect takes place. mtg y counters are placed on permanents to denote the time remaining until an effect takes place, or as a reminder of some past event that you may want to keep track of for future reference.
A token is not considered just another counter; it has its own separate ability and will be removed when this card’s effects take place next turn. mtg
There can never be more tokens in play than there are players in the game at any given point in time (unless a player creates them). mtg
If something appears as both a permanent and a token simultaneously then it counts towards your maximum number of cards allowed out at once (so if you have 40 cards, but 20 permanents already on the field, you can only have 20 tokens on mtg
A card is considered a permanent if it remains out of play for some time and then comes back into play. mtg permanents are cards that exist in your library as well as in other zones where they wait to be played). mtg
Card permanents usually require mana from an associated land type or color (not necessarily just one) to cast them from their zone onto the battlefield.
Cards with power/toughness don’t count against this limit; tokens do not have any power/toughness value. mtg
An example would be “you may pay {R} to put a swamp token onto the battlefield. mtg mtg
Token permanents are cards that exist only on the battlefield and have power/toughness assigned to them, as opposed to card permanents which reside in other zones waiting for you
