Ashland, Oregon is a beautiful little town in Southern Oregon. It’s nestled next to the Siskiyou Mountains and surrounded by lush forests, so it’s no wonder that Ashland is often called “the city of trees.” The things to do are plentiful here; you’ll never be bored! Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventures like hiking or skiing, or indoor fun things like shopping or dining out – this list of 5 things will help you find the perfect thing to do when visiting Ashland.
Hiking on the Cascade Lakes Scenic Highway: This is one of my favorite things to do when visiting Ashland. The hike starts out with a wide open view then descends into lush, green forests as it winds its way down along some beautiful lakes. It’s about 11 miles total and can be done in any season!
Enjoying wine at Black Sheep Winery: What could be better than tasting local wines while enjoying views of Mount McLoughlin? You don’t have to drive far from downtown either – just head west for 18 miles until you see vineyards dotting the hillside against an impressive backdrop. I highly recommend a stop here if you’re looking for things to do in ashland oregon that are outside the box.
Hiking along Mirror Lake: With easy access from downtown and a beautiful view of Mount Shasta, it’s no wonder I stop there on my way to work each morning. It takes about 45 minutes for an out-and-back hike – one mile in each direction with plenty of things to see along the way (including wildflowers!). The trail is relatively flat so you can even bring your dog!
Walking around downtown Ashland: Downtown is filled with galleries, boutiques, restaurants and more all within walking distance so be sure not to miss those when visiting ashland oregon! There are lots of things happening here throughout the year too like arts festivals during spring/summer months or holiday celebrations at Christmas time.
The Oregon Shakespeare Festival: One of the things to do in ashland oregon is visit this nationally renowned theatre during your stay! With plays performed year round, a season pass will get you access to opening night and 11 shows for one low price. If that’s not enough variety for you though, they also offer rotating summer offerings – like their current production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on stage at beautiful Elizabethan Theatre Courtyard (pictured).
Art galleries around town: While other towns might be known as wine country or hiking destinations, Ashland has art galore. There are over 60 artist studios here with plenty more displaying work along the streets downtown so make sure you stop by some while visiting.
Ashland Creek: This popular walking and biking trail is a beautiful spot for visitors to take in the beauty of nature. It’s just over two miles long, paved and wheelchair accessible so it can be enjoyed by all!
The Saturday Market: Every weekend there’s an outdoor market here with numerous vendors selling things like clothes, used books, jewelry – you name it really. But this isn’t your typical tourist trap junk either; these are quality items that have been hand selected by artisans themselves who want to share their passion for creativity with others.
Baldface Lodge Golf Course: If golfing or camping has always been on your bucket list but never made the cut as things to do in ashland oregon before now, this is the place to do it!
Oregon Shakespeare Festival: One of things to do in ashland oregon that most people come here for, you can’t beat seeing a performance by one of America’s greatest playwrights. The festival also brings world-class theatre from Europe and Asia.
