In this video, I discuss the various ways that technology can affect one’s life. From the everyday effects of technology to the negative effects of technology.
I find the topic of technology to be one that can be extremely divisive, but I try to do my best to keep it from getting to that point. Here’s the good part: I usually end my videos on a positive note, and you are likely to see many of my videos end like this.
Technology can be good or bad, but the good side of technology allows it to be used for good, like saving an old friend’s life. The bad side of technology can also be used for bad, like selling a drug or killing someone. The real difference is how the technology is used. If the bad side of technology is used for good, then its effect on one is lessened because it doesn’t directly cause harm.
I think the good effects of technology outweigh the bad effects because if you use it for good, then the good uses of technology dont have to be controlled. If someone uses an awesome new technology that saves their life, it isnt fair to have the technology controlled by someone else. If you use a technology that causes death, then its not fair to have it controlled by someone else.
I tend to agree with that logic because the technology that is used for good has to be controlled by someone. However this logic is the same as saying, “if someone uses a bad thing, their bad thing must be controlled by someone else.” This is called the “self-contradiction” argument and it has been used to justify both slavery and segregation.
It’s like the difference between saying “no” and “yes”. Saying “no” when you’re not sure what you want to do is like “yes” if you’re sure. So you are always wrong. Saying “yes” means you have no choice. Saying “no” means you have to do something you can’t control. There’s a simple example of this on our website we call “The Self-Contradiction of Good and Evil”.
Our definition of good and evil has always been subjective. We have no idea what is “good” for one person but what is “evil” for another and we can’t tell you if these rules are really true. That’s why we try and avoid the subject.
One of our very first stories is about a man who has a problem with a boy and he decides to kill his friend’s brother. We all love a good horror story but we really don’t know what the hell is going on. The fact is that our own definition of good and evil is subjective and we can’t tell you if the rules of good and evil really are true. But that doesnt mean that we can’t still say yes or no on this subject.
If you have a problem with video games and you cant tell us, then you are not ready for this story. But we are still going to say that there is a very good chance that the rules of good and evil arent exactly true. Its just that not everyone agrees with them.
While I don’t think that digital technology actually has a very strong negative side, I do think that we can’t let these digital technologies take over our world and totally take over our lives. We have to be able to say no to things that are not just in our best interests.
