This is a concept that states that a chemical reaction is equivalent to a physical device that you make. If the reactions are always the same, then you can build a device that will work for all reactions, regardless of whether you want it to or not. For example, if you want to build a machine to make your own water, you can make an equivalent device that will produce water for every reaction you want.

So a lot of people who have been in construction all of their lives, who have been making a good living, and are now getting tired of the repetitive nature of their work and are looking for a change.
