We all know that the business world is a tough place to navigate. The job description is filled with a lot of responsibility. Many times, the business environment can be quite stressful, and no one looks forward to being in a situation where they have to deal with this.
One of the worst things that can happen when you are trying to navigate a tough business environment is to find yourself in a position where someone is trying to take advantage of you. That is exactly what happened to me in 2009 when I was an employee at an accounting firm. During my first day of work, my boss and I got into a heated discussion about my compensation.
In this case, I was the employee who was trying to negotiate a higher pay raise. I remember the argument clearly because I was having an awful time trying to come up with a realistic number that I could live with. It was the first time that I’d faced something like this.
I came to it with a lot of confidence. I remember telling him, “I will work with you to try and get you a more reasonable amount.” He told me, “We’ll make sure he never makes anything less than what he makes now.” He then got out of the office and walked out with his secretary, telling me to go back to my desk.
I’m not sure if it’s because of the way I was brought up, or if it was something that was drilled into me, but I think everyone knows that it’s bad business to tell someone that they can’t make a certain amount, but in this case I’m kind of sure.
You’re not the only one. Every person who’s ever dealt with a business bureau knows they have to make sure the business bureau is actually doing something for them. Businesses don’t just come with a “We’re all on the same page, we’re all in this together, let’s all do our best and get it done.” statement on their website. They want to make you and your family feel good about what they’re doing.
Businesses are not just about doing something, they’re about making money. Which is why many people with business Bureau complaints try to get the bureau to do something they know it can do better. Thats why companies put out “best practices” to point out why they don’t always do things the way the bureau wants them to.
I love the way Business Bureau’s website makes it seem like you can do any and everything they ask of you. I love how they take a picture of you and write a letter to the local Better Business Bureau (BBB) stating you’re the one who’s been doing the complaining. Because you are. And because they will. And because they won’t.
As we all know, Better Business Bureau is a business that works to promote and protect the business of a company. Its existence is rooted in the same values as the American people, and so they exist to make things better for the companies they represent. In this case though, the BBB seems to be in the business of making things worse.
The BBB can help you if you have a question about a company or product, but they may not be able to answer your specific question, so you have to go on their website to ask. But also, there has been talk that BBB may charge you for the service.
