Grey is the new black. The dog world has seen an influx of grey dogs over the last year or so, and everyone wants to know what their name should be! In this blog post, we’ll share with you our 7 favorite hacks for naming your new pup.
Ace: short for Ace Ventura, the movie. In it, a grey dog played an important role in solving the mystery that was going on. It’s also super cute!
Foggy: When you think of foggy weather and rain your mind probably goes to London – so this is perfect for those who love to travel but don’t want their pup to be cold all year long. Foggy just needs some hot tea every now and then!
Panda Bear: A panda bear has black ears, paws, tail and eye patches which can remind people of certain types of greys like Siberian Huskies or German Shepherds. The coloration between these breeds can vary though as they’re genetically different.
Sooty: If you like to watch the British children’s TV show, then you might really enjoy this name for your pup! Sooty is a small black dog who likes to clean things up and often helps look out for soot in chimneys.
Storm: Storms are exciting! This is one of our favorite names because it reminds us that there can be both rainbows and thunderstorms
all at once if we’re lucky. Storm is also a great way to remember that grey animals have beautiful silver undersides with white accents on their fur which makes them just as pretty when they get wet or dirty from an adventure outside.
Mokele Mbembe: Mokele Mbembe is a legendary creature from Africa. There are many different stories about Mokele Mbembe, but one of the more popular ones tells us that it’s a large lizard like animal who lives in lakes and rivers.
Romulus: Romulus was the founder of Rome – which we think might make him an awesome namesake for your pup as well!
Diesel: This name comes to us thanks to our favorite car company, so you know they’re going to have some solid advice on names for any dog breed! Diesel has been around since 1913 – making them both old and new at the same time. And this means their style can also be timeless no matter what day or age it is today.
Loki: Loki is the Norse trickster god who was well known for his mischief. But, he did have some good moments in there too! He also had a pretty deep story that would make an awesome book to read with your pup or any other pet you happen to be dog sitting currently.
Yoda: Yoda is one of the most iconic characters from Star Wars and has been since The Phantom Menace came out in 199 – making this name perfect for any gray dog if they’re still around after all these years (or even just getting started).
Sergei Samoylovich Kuznetsov AKA Sasha:
This Russian hockey player became famous when he played on Team Russia in the 1972 Summit Series. He was a left winger who played on the line with Valeri Kharlamov and Boris Mikhailov to help Team Russia win that series (and some others).

Cargo: This is an easy name for the adventurous pup who loves to explore. Get it? Cargo also means cargo, so you can call your pup “cargo.” It sounds like just about any other word in the dictionary too which makes it easy! Plus this one has that cool meaning behind it. Talk about multi tasking! Who doesn’t want their pet to be cool?
Biscuit: If you’re looking for something more on the traditional side then Biscuit might be up your alley. We all know how much dogs love biscuits (especially when they’re trying to bribe them). It’s a cute name but it also has that old and modern feel too.
Muffin: This is another one for the traditionalists out there.
Muffins are a favorite treat with dogs so why not give your pup this clever alternative? Plus, we all know how much puppies love muffins! Give this one a try if you want something easy to say without spelling issues (just make sure they don’t get confused between biscuit and muffin!)

Cloudy: If we can be honest here then Cloudy would probably go best on an fluffy white dog or in other words, both of our favorites types of breeds! We all know how much dogs love the rain so this is a great name if you want to use something that will always remind them of their favorite activity.
Gentle: The perfect word for those who have a gentle giant at home! We don’t need to argue about which kind of dog is better, we just want to make sure they’re as happy and healthy as possible.
Sunny: If your pup has had enough rainy days then Sunny might be able to brighten things up around here! It’s an upbeat way to describe what you think your pup would enjoy or maybe even their personality type too? After all, these are called Grey Dogs not Black ones afterall.
